About Vedaranyam
Vedaranniyam is a town in Nagapattinam area in the Indian province of Tamil Nadu. The town is named after the directing divinity of the Vedaranyeswarar Temple. The written history of Vedaranyam is known from medieval Chola time of the ninth century and has been ruled, at ious occasions, by the Medieval Cholas, Later Cholas, Later Pandyas, Vijayanagar Empire and the British. Amid India's autonomy battle, C. Rajagopalachari, who might later wind up autonomous India's first Governor-General, propelled a salt walk in Vedaranyam parallel to the Dandi March propelled by Gandhi in 1930 to challenge the business charge imposed on salt extraction.
The place was before known as "Tirumaraikadu", which means where Vedas, most established sacred texts of Hinduism, started. The seventh century Saiva standard work Team by Appar and Tirugnanasambandar notices the place as "Tirumaraikadu". According to Hindu legend, the Vedas revered Shiva in this place, giving the name "Vedaranyam" to the place. As indicated by another Hindu legend, Rama, the seventh symbol of god Vishnu, is accepted to have visited
Vedaranniyam to vindicate himself from sins submitted in the war against the evil presence lord Ravana. The impressions of Rama is saved in a place called Ramar Padam near
Vedaranniyam.
