In Kangra area of Himachal Pradesh, Shree Vajreshwari Devi Mandir is situated which is a Hindu temple devoted to the goddess Vajreshi. A legend says that after Goddess Sati relinquished herself in the respect of Lord Shiva in her Fathers Yagya. Shiva took her body on his shoulder and began Tandav.
So as to prevent him from annihilating the world Lord Vishnu isolated the group of Sati into 51 sections with his Chakra. The left breast of Sati fell at this spot, thus making it a Shakti Peeth. The entrance gate consists Nagarkhana and is constructed like the Bassein fort entrance. The sanctuary is likewise encompassed by a stone wall like a fort.
