About Uttarpara Kotrung
Uttarpara Kotrung Municipality is the metro body that oversees Uttarpara, Kotrung, Bhadrakali, Hindmotor, Makhla and encompassing regions in Srirampore subdivision of Hooghly region, West Bengal, India. Uttarpara Municipality was established on 14 April 1853. Uttarpara was just the second town in Bengal to deliberately receive the Municipal Act of 1850 Sec XX16 – Serampore was the principal town to embrace it. In any case, while in Serampore European inhabitants drove the issue through, in Uttarpara it was the zamindar Joy Krishna Mukherjee who assumed the critical job. Kotrung was converged with Uttarapara Municipality in 1964 and it was renamed Uttarpara Kotrung Municipality.
Makhla was converged with Uttarpara Kotrung Municipality in 1991. Uttarpara gloats of a rich social legacy. The town once gloated of sylvan peace, wonderful structures, encapsulation of awesome compositional works and saturated with social legacy. Bengali artist Michael Madhusudan Dutt spent his last days in Uttarpara Joykrishna Library. In 1909, Aurobindo Ghosh gave his last political discourse before leaving for Pondicherry to grasp monkhood. This discourse, known as 'Uttarpara Speech', is a significant work for understanding Hinduism and Sanatan dharma by Sri Aurobindo.
