A place with complete serenity, a paradise-lover with awe-striking scenario which spellbound the mind of every visitor. Nestled around the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, away in the hilly Kumaoun region. The place inhabits thick pine forest and oak trees give a much eye-soothing scenario. The lake is elevated at an elevation of eight thousand and seventy-four feet above sea level. It is located at a distance of one hundred and thirty-one kilometers from Gangotri and twenty-nine kilometers from Uttarkhand.
The lake has much historical evidence, where legends says that the lake was formed by Uddalak and was named after his son Nachiketa. Beside a small temple of Nag Devata resides here which is visited by the local dwellers in the festive of Nagpanchami. The panoramic view of the Banderpoonch peak on the west of the lake give a major treat to this place.
The place also boosts the hikers and a perfect place for trekkings. The rhododendrons, the dense forest and the aquatic life attracts the hikers all overs. The route rejuvenates all the travelers with such majestic view of the Himalayas which seems much a fairytale scenario.
