Murud Janjir

Murud Janjir is a majestic historical fort located in the middle of the Arabian Sea. It lies on an island situated off the coastal village of Murud. Besides the fort, Murud beach is also a stunning tourist attraction.

The word “janjir” may have been derived from the Arabic word “Jazeera”, which refers to an island. The fort is a historical wonder, still standing perfectly in the middle of the sea. It reaches a height of 40 meters. There are 20 bastions, which are still intact. One can spot several mighty canons inside the fort, which have been preserved as a piece of our history. The three cannons named Kalalbangdi, Chavri and Landa Kasam are almost legendary. The fort of Murud Janjir is considered to be one of the strongest marine forts in India. The only way to reach the fort is a boat ride from the Murud beach. Set against the brilliant blue sea, the fort is a stunning picture.
