Matanga Hill is another popular tourist spots for those visiting Hampi. It is located at a distance of 1 km from the bus stand and at the eastern end of the Hampi Bazaar. It offers a panoramic view of the entire ruined city and the landscape below.
It is the highest point in Hampi. It is the best spot to get an aerial view of the city and the surroundings. There is a small temple on the top of the Matanga Hill and a small cave on the way down which is said to be the hiding place of Sugriva.
The holy place, Matanga has been mentioned in the pic Ramayana. It is a trekker's delight. The climbing takes about half hour. The roof is the ideal sunrise and sunset point.
