About Chitai Golu Devta Temple

The Chitai temple is located about 10 kms from Almora. Situated near Falsima, this sacred temple is dedicated to Golu Devta or Lord Golu, who is considered to be the mythological and historical God of the Kumaon region. The temple is situated atop a hill, constructed back in the 12th century by a general of the Chand Dynasty.

The Golu Devta is the God of Justice. Devotees visit the temple in large numbers to offer bells and sacrifice animals after their wishes get fulfilled. The temple is surrounded by thick forests of the chir Pines. One can see a huge number of bells hanging in the temple premises. The walls of the temple are covered with stamp papers, which are basically the petitions of the devotees who got no justice at the court.
