About Ananthashayana Temple

It is situated at a separation of 37 Kms from Udupi and 50 Kms from Mangalore, Sri Ananthashayana Temple is an old temple situated in Karkala. This temple is devoted to Lord Ananthapadmanabha another type of Lord Vishnu. This temple is arranged close Sri Venkata Ramana Temple around 1 Km and Chaturmukha Basadi around 1 Km. This temple was initially a Jain Basadi in fifteenth century. Amid that time, Sringeri Jagadguru Sri Narasimha Bharathi Swamiji came to Karkala and the Jain King gave him a warm welcome.

Be that as it may, Swamiji said he will remain just if there is a temple with Lord introduced in it. The ruler gave the Jain Basadi to His Holiness Sringeri Swamiji and introduced a stone designed of Lord Vishnu. The great icon of Lord Vishnu is cut out of a solitary dark stone with Lord Brahma leaving Vishnu's navel, and Sridevi and Bhudevi at his feet.
