Situated at a distance of 10 kilometers from the Srisailam temple and about 25 kilometers from the Srisailam Dam, the Akkamahadevi Caves is one of the most popular tourist spot in Srisailam. These are naturally formed caves in the Nallamala hills. They have been formed above the upstream flow of the river Krishna.
One can take a motor boat from Patala Ganga or do and hour boating ride across the River Krishna to reach the Akkamahadevi Caves. The cave is named after the famous philosopher and ascetic, Akka Mahadevi, who did penance in this cave and also worshipped the Shivalinga that naturally existed at the end of the cave.
A walk through the cave which is endowed with geological marvels and a journey through the Krishna river is a once in a lifetime experience. The caves are dark and visitors require torches to enter the cave.
