Aayi Mandapam

Aayi Mandapam is a white monument in Pondicherry, India built during the time of Napoleon III, Emperor of France. It is situated in center of Bharathi park. The monument commemorates the supply of water to the French city during his reign. It became named after a girl courtesan known as Ayi. She destroyed her personal residence to erect a water reservoir to supply water for the metropolis. Built within the centre of the lovely Bharati Park, Park Monument Aayi Mandapam is one of the maximum iconic systems of Pondicherry.

Named after a well-known lady courtesan named 'Aayi', this monument turned into constructed at some point of the period of Napoleon III in the 16th century. According to folklore, Aayi destroyed her own house to construct a reservoir to deliver water within the city. Aayi Mandapam is an imposing milky white shape that flaunts great Greco-Roman architecture. The presence of flowerbeds, properly-manicured lawns and appropriate fountains across the monument greatly accentuates its exquisiteness.
