About Chateau de Chavaniac

The Chateau de Chavaniac is a fortified manor house of eighteen rooms supplied in the Louis XIII fashion positioned in Chavaniac Lafayette, Haute Loire, in Auvergne, France. Flanked through towers of black stone, it was built inside the 14th century and became the birthplace of General Lafayette in 1757. In 1916, a collection of rich philanthropists led through Scottish born American industrialist John C. Moffat purchased the fort to function a center of philanthropy for human beings stricken by World War I. Following the struggle he renovated it completely to keep documents and gadgets relating to General Lafayette.

The Chateau de Chavaniac became built inside the 14th century. It was partly destroyed via a fire in 1701. General Lafayette changed into born here in 1757. He became married in 1774 to Adrienne de Noailles. They had four kids collectively Henrietta, who died at a young age, Anastasie, Georges and Virginie who lived in the fortress. A hero of the American and French revolutions, he became rejected through the French revolutionaries when he voted towards the loss of life of King Louis16en. With the autumn of the monarchy, he tried to flee to the USA via the Dutch Republic.
