A bit of interesting trivia about Kochi. Kochi or Cochin? In case you’re wondering what’s the right term to refer to this place, you’re right in both cases. Another iconic sight that you simply cannot miss while traversing the coastal stretch as part of your Kochi sightseeing experience are the one- of-a-kind fishing nets you would have never seen elsewhere. These nets are called Cheenavala - which translates to Chinese nets. Believed to be introduced to the local fishermen by Chinese traders during the rule of Kublai Khan, these structures are huge bamboo poles with nets tied to one end and dip and rise from the waters. Do make it a point to snap a picture in front of these, as you’ll never find such mechanisms outside of China.
