About Vise
Vise is a municipality and metropolis of Belgium, wherein it's far located at the river Meuse, within the Walloon province of Liege. The municipality consists of the previous municipalities of Vise, Lanaye, Lixhe, Richelle, Argenteau, and Cheratte. In the north-east the area of the municipality extends up to the village of Moelingen within the Limburgian municipality of Voeren, whilst within the north-west it extends as much as the border among Belgium and the Netherlands on the alternative side of which the Dutch municipality of Maastricht is situated.
The town of Vise is positioned in a distance of a few 20 km north eastern of Belgian Liege town and of some 15 km southern of the maximum southern Dutch metropolis of Maastricht. Apart from the Meuse river some other waterway, the Albert Canal, passes via this city. The Germans entered Belgium on 4 August 1914, and entered Vise that day as a part of the opening movements of the Battle of Liege. A small organization of Belgian gendarmes hostile the advancing Germans and of their variety, Auguste Bouko and Jean-Pierre Thill, were killed inside the action turning into the first Belgian casualties of World War I.
