Dambulla Cave Temple

A complex of around 80 caves, Dambulla Cave Temple is among the most well preserved cave complex in the country. Situated on a rock around 160 m above the surrounding area, it is nearly 168 km east from Colombo. Most of the attractions are concentrated in 5 caves only which are full of statues and paintings of Lord Buddha. Apart from the 153 statues of Lord Buddha, there are 4 statues of Hindu Gods and Goddesses and three statues of famous Sri Lankan Kings. Built around the 1st century BC, Dambulla Cave Temple are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
