About Meyer May House

The Meyer May House is a Frank Lloyd Wright-planned house in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in the United States. It is viewed as a fine case of Wright's Prairie School period, and "Michigan's Prairie gem". The Meyer May House was authorized in 1908 by Meyer S. May, leader of May's garments store in Grand Rapids, and his significant other Sophie. The house's appearance remains as opposed to the Victorian houses run of the mill of the period and the Heritage Hill neighborhood.
Meyer May House is elaborately common place of Wright's Prairie houses, a two story, T-design developed of pale block, with high rooftops and long expansive overhang, craftsmanship glass windows and skylights. The first floor windows are tucked under the roof and raised from ground level, giving both protection and giving light to the staircase and second floor exhibition.
Wright painstakingly sited the house to permit greatest southern introduction for the front room windows and sky facing windows and to make an extensive yard for the lasting patio nurseries. The Meyer May House was set on the Michigan State Register of Historic Sites in 1986 and is likewise part of the Heritage Hill Historic District. The Heritage Hill area was recorded in 1971 on both the National Register of Historic Places.
