About St. Laurences Church

St. Laurence's Church, Ludlow is a parish church in the Church of England in Ludlow. The church is a member of the Greater Churches Group and is the most important parish church in Shropshire. It became one in all most effective 18 church buildings given a five-big name rating in England's Thousand Greatest Churches by Simon Jenkins and is defined as the "cathedral of the Marches". It is the 13th maximum popular free tourist enchantment inside the West Midlands, with 70,000 traffic in line with year. The parish church turned into set up as a place of worship in association with the founding of Ludlow by using the Normans within the late 11th century.

It is located at the top of the hill round which the medieval city evolved. The church become rebuilt in the year 1199 and has had several later additions and changes. Notable functions encompass an in depth set of misericords in the choir stalls as well as great stained glass home windows. The dominant outside function is the square bell tower, which houses the historic and famed bells of the church. The chancel carries the mediaeval choir stalls decorated with several misericords. Many of these fine wooden carvings are of heraldry and others are genre scenes of common life.
