About Pavenham Osier Beds
Pavenham Osier Beds is a 1.3 hectare nature save south of Pavenham,on the banks of the River Great Ouse, in Bedfordshire. It is overseen by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. This is a wet knoll beside the River Great Ouse, which has the phenomenal bloom glade lament. Osier is a kind of willow which is persistently cut, animating its development and providing material for container weavers.
The Trust is proceeding with the custom by planting more osiers. An Osier bed is the place generally willows were planted and coppiced to deliver withies which were utilized for bushel making, angle traps, and different purposes. The willow species salix viminalis was ordinarily developed for this reason. Willow bars cuttings would be planted, which root effectively in sodden ground, and the development of the willow withies would be cut each a couple of years. There is access by a pathway on the left of Mill Lane. There are no trails in this little site.
