About Chateau Howard

Chateau Howard is a stately home in North Yorkshire, England, 15 miles 24 km north of York. It is a private living arrangement, and has been the home of the Carlisle part of the Howard family for over 300 years. Chateau Howard is certifiably not a genuine mansion, yet this term is likewise utilized for English nation houses raised on the site of a previous military stronghold. It is well-known to TV and film groups of onlookers as the anecdotal "Brideshead", both in Granada Television's 1981 adjustment of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited and a two-hour 2008 change for film. Today, it is a piece of the Treasure Houses of England gathering of legacy houses.

Working of Castle Howard started in 1699 and assumed control 100 years to finish to a plan by Sir John Vanbrugh for the third Earl of Carlisle. The site was that of the destroyed Henderskelfe Castle, which had come into the Howard family in 1566 through the marriage of Thomas, fourth Duke of Norfolk to Elizabeth Leyburne, dowager of Thomas, fourth Baron Dacre. For the Duke of Norfolk's child Lord William Howard had hitched his progression sister Elizabeth Dacre, the little girl of the fourth Baron Dacre who carried with her the sizable bequests of Henderskelfe and Naworth Castle also.
