The Ravishing Beauty Of Wayanad

 

Wayanad is one of the most beautiful getaways of Kerala. With the green highlands, the cool climate, and abundant valleys this place is nothing less than a glory. It is located 700 to 2100 meter above the sea level and spans an area of over 2000 square kilometers. The place has an abundance of natural beauty and tourists visiting the place can explore its rich flora and fauna. It offers some rich culinary tastes to visitors which are a specialty of the area. 

 

There are also many types of activities that can be done when you are in Wayanad. In the following sections, we will take a look at some tourist places and activities which can be done here.

 

⦁    The Edakkal Caves - The Edakkal Caves of Wayanad are reminiscent of one of the earliest human settlements dating back to the New Stone Age from 6,000 BC which can be fantastic to watch. It is located 12 kilometers south of Sultan Bathery in the Ambukuthi Hills. You may have to climb up the steep hill steps on the Ambakutty Mala to reach these caves but the lush greenery all around can take your breath away.  

 

⦁    The Bamboo Forests of Muthanga - It is more than a centuries-old area and offers a serene and beautiful look. It is also home to many varieties of deer, wild bears, cheetahs, and buffaloes. 

 

⦁    Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary - Bird-watchers can visit the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary to see some of the most endangered species. It is one of the favorite spots for all bird-lovers and ornithologists. 

 

⦁    The Phantom Rock - The Phantom Rock is a splendid architectural wonder of Wayanad where a skull-shaped boulder is delicately balanced over a rock and makes for a great viewing. 

 

⦁    The Meenmutty Falls - The Meenmutty Falls offer a scenic extravaganza to tourists but for reaching the place, one may have to trek through a dense green forest for two kilometers. 

 

⦁    The Lakkidi View Point - On the peak of the Thamarassery pass, the Lakkidi View Point provides a breathtaking view of the beautiful green mountain slopes of Wayanad. The view can be doubly enthralling as the mountains are covered in a thick blanket of fog.       

 

⦁    Activities galore at Wayanad - If you are one of the persons who like adventure and sports on a holiday trail, Wayanad can offer the perfect option. 

 

The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary has tigers, elephants and bison apart from many other animals roaming all through its 344 square kilometers area that can be wonderful for a visit. There are also ample opportunities for adventure tourism in the sanctuary. 
Anyone can get a wonderful view from the Chembra Peak in Wayanad that is situated at a height of 2,100 meters from the sea-level. That is the reason why it is a paradise for trekking and you can enjoy it over here accordingly. A trek to the peak may take a day but you can enjoy the breathtaking view after reaching here and can even stay in temporary camps for a few days.

 

Another mind-blowing trekking spot is the Banasura Sagar Dam. It is situated on one of the tributaries of the Kabini River and surrounded by the Banasura Hills. The view from the place can be just enthralling.

 

Boating enthusiasts can enjoy boat rides at the Pookode Lake. It is a freshwater lake that offers elegant boating facilities and is surrounded by green forests and mountain ranges all around.   

 

⦁    Culinary delights of Wayanad - A galore of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is available in Wayanad. Foodies can have a nice time with Rasam, Moru koottan, Sambhar and Poricha Koottu available at all places. All these are local dishes that can be consumed with rice. Vegetarian palates include special Stew, Thoran, Pulissery or Avial. Many types of foreign culinary tastes in Chinese, Italian and other menus are also available here.
