The Palace on Wheels is India’s first luxury train which was started on January 26 in 1982. After some time the service was stopped and it was relaunched in August 2009. The new additions had more facilities and add on luxuries. It is the best Royal Indian Train and is ranked as the 4th best luxury train. The train has 14 salons which are named after the provinces of Rajasthan. It has two restaurants which are called Maharaja and Maharani Restaurants. Talking more about the rooms, Palace on Wheels has 14 fully air-conditioned deluxe salons where each of them has a combination of 4 twin bedded chambers with channel music, intercom, attached toilets, running hot and cold water, shower, wall to wall carpeting and many other facilities. The furniture is beautiful as it has inlaid motifs which are specially formed for the Palace on Wheels.

The train has different rates for the different seasons. If you go in Peak season that is October to March the ticket will be costly. For single occupant, the price is more and if you are two people than a package is offered. For the ones who want the rates on bit lower side then going For September or April is advisable. At that time the price is low and you can avail discounts too. For the people who are in more number packages are given. For the liquor, phone calls and laundry extra money is taken as it is not included in the ticket.

There are special discounts for children. For the children who are below five years old a ten percent of the ticket charge is given whereas, for the children between 5 years to 12 years of age, half of the ticket cost is taken. For the kids, a proof which specifies there age is also asked so that people don’t fake and take discounts. For the festivals such as Christmas and New Year, a ten percent of the extra charge is taken.
