About Museo del Bierzo

The Bierzo Museum is situated in Ponferrada, in the Bierzo district, region of Leon, independent network of Castilla y Leon. It is situated in the royal residence of the Counts of Toreno, worked somewhere in the range of 1565 and 1572, it was a consistorial royal residence at the season of Felipe II, the corregidor's home and later the old jail of Ponferrada until the 18th century. The Municipal Corporation of the City Council of Ponferrada affirmed its creation in 1966, and it is from 1984, with the undertaking of rebuilding the royal residence of the Counts of Toreno.
The rebuilding works were completed until 1997, the year in which it was introduced. The museological venture was Jesus Alvarez Courel, its executive until June 2008. It was initiated on July 14, 1997 by the General Director of Heritage of the Junta de Castilla y Leon, Carlos de la Casa Martínez, with the nearness of the vicar of the Diocese of Astorga and the city hall leader of the city, Ismael Alvarez.
