About Basilica Our Lady of the Oak

The Basilica Our Lady of the Oak is a Christian sanctuary situated in the Spanish town of Ponferrada, in the area of El Bierzo, territory of Leon, self-governing network of Castilla y Leon. The plant is of Latin cross; the head, in its upper part, frames a half hexagon; the voyage is of short and wide arms. At the foot, at the base of the pinnacle, on the left of the passageway is the baptistery and on the privilege the stairs that lead to the exhibition, in the middle a lobby with sidelong openings, on the second area, on the left, a side entryway with an open pediment style neoclassical outside.
On the front is the changing area of the Virgin of La Encina. The old medieval church of Santa María, raised toward the finish of the twelfth century, had five sacrificial tables, whose holders were Santa Maria, San Pedro, Santa Catalina, Santo Domingo and Santiago. It had a ringer tower with four chimes. The entire church was scrutinized, asserting that it was little, gravely manufactured, revolting. Thus, in 1567, the Provisor of the Bishopric of Astorga enabled the town to construct another congregation. Not long after, he requested his building.
