About Afrikaans Language Monument
The Afrikaans dialect, talked for the most part in South Africa and Namibia, began as a tongue of Dutch, conveyed to the Cape zone by pilgrims from the Dutch East India Company in the late seventeenth century. "Afrikaans" is the Dutch word for "African," and the dialect was once called "Cape Dutch."
