About Peru

Peru is another important heritage country in South America which puts light on many previous civilizations that helped shape future of the entire world. The most prominent civilization to have inhabited Peru is the Inca civilization, which has left behind its footprints for the world to see and admire. Peru covers a total area of 1,285,220 km2, out of which 60% falls under Amazon rainforest, The rest is covered by highlands of Andes region and the coastal west. Most famous of course is the city of Machu Picchu. It has been adjudged one of the seven wonders in the world and is one of the most famous sights in entire South America. The Amazon rainforest too has become an important tourist destination for its abundant wildlife species. A tourist can indulge in almost all kinds of adventure sports and and relaxation activities in Peru. Almost all beaches on the coastline of Peru have wonderful water sport facilities and the Andes on the western side of the country is almost perfect for trekking, mountaineering and winter skiing. Lima is the capital city of Peru. It is the largest city of Peru and the fifth largest city in entire South America. The city which is home to nearly one-third of the total population of Peru, is also the most important tourism city with archaeological sites, museums, nightlife and cultural activities in plenty. Other major cities of Peru are Arequipa, Iquitos and Trujillo.
