Castel Rametz

It is a manor of medieval origin located in Maia Alta in the municipality of Merano.
The first historical information regarding the castle dates back to 1269, when it was first mentioned in written documents.
Between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries it was owned by the Rametz family, then passed to the Aichner, then the Quaranta, the Planta, the Travers and the Parravicini.
In 1836 it was bought by Francesco Flarer, a professor at the University of Pavia, whose daughter married Agostino Depretis.
He transformed it into his home, carrying out a radical restoration that brought the castle to its current appearance, characterized by towers and Ghibelline battlements.
