About Ennis Cathedral

The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul also referred to as Ennis Cathedral, is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe. It is positioned in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland. The site of the cathedral turned into donated to the diocese in 1828 for the development of a parish church for Ennis. Building works had been commenced and persevered with sluggish progress, and the unfinished church was first used to preserve Mass in 1842. The church changed into then devoted to saints Peter and Paul a year later.

Development of the church largely stopped for the duration of the Great Famine, however afterwards works to the interior layout of the church have been undertaken. The tower and spire of the church had been completed in 1874. The parish church become accelerated to seasoned-cathedral reputation in 1889, with the Bishop taking house in Ennis. In 1890, Thomas J. McRedmond became the Bishop of Killaloe, and decided to base the bishopric on the church in Ennis. Thus, the parish church turned into specific because the seasoned-cathedral of the Diocese of Killaloe. In 1894, the principle entrance of the cathedral was built, and massive redecoration of the building changed into undertaken. In the 1930s, a new vestry and chapter room had been brought to the building, and the existing pipe organ and chapter stalls had been installed.
