About Killashee Round Tower

The religious establishment at Killashee was developed in the fifth century by St Auxilius, from whom the name Killashee is settled, Kill auxilius-Church of Auxilius.

The three story tower, worked from uncoarsed shake pieces, is specifically affixed to an eighteenth century church.

Also called Kilussy church it is acknowledged to have been founded on the site of an earlier medieval church.

Leask 1960, Vol 3, 182 saw the scar of the A-housetop line of the medieval church on the E mass of the zenith.

It is fascinating to know when the zenith was created.

It resembles the twelfth century associated towers at Ferns and Dungiven. A later date has been prescribed.
