About Cork City Gaol

Plug City Gaol was expected to supplant the old Gaol at the North Gate Bridge in the center of the city. The old Gaol was right around 100 years old, on a restricted site, stuffed and unhygienic.

Right when Cork City Gaol at first opened it was represented as being "the finest in 3 kingdoms".

It housed both male and female prisoners who completed infringement inside as far as possible.

Anyone completing a bad behavior outside as far as possible was sent to the County Gaol, which was arranged on the grounds of what is presently UCC.

In the 1870s different changes occurred in the Gaol. The West Wing was remade into a brighter, more open twofold sided cell wing.

The Gaol in like manner transformed into "a place of control for females figuratively speaking".
