One of the 12 revered Jyotirlingas in India, Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is enshrined on the mouth of River Godai atop of Brahmagiri hills. Representing one of its kind manifestations of Lord Shiva, the temple is an astonishing work of architecture and creative brilliance. The Jyotirlinga is a three face idol that represents three Hindu deities Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu & Lord Rudra. An intricately woven jewel crest made of gold adorns the jyotirlinga, making the entire sight breathtaking. Adorned with many precious stones like diamonds, emeralds, gems, the crest is believed to be from the ages of Pandavas.
The legend about the temple states that the Gautam rishi worshiped Lord Shiva vigorously for years on the top of Brahmagiri hill. Pleased Lord Shiva blessed him with the ability to bring the holy Rivers Ganga and Godai on earth. The Rishi thus brought Ganga, Gautami, and Godai to the earth and made the place holy.
Pandalveni Caves
Located at some distance from Trimbakeshwar is the Pandu Leni Caves. They are also celebrated as Trirashmi Caves and dates back to 3rd and 2nd centuries. A group of 24 caves, the Pandu Leni caves are a primary attraction near Trimbakeshwar. The inscriptions on the walls of the caves depict the influence of Buddhism on the three kings of Nasik; the Kshatrapas, the Satavahanas, and the Abhirs.
