The Indian Botanical Garden

The Botanical gardens or Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden is one of the most captivatinh tourist spot of Howrah. Located in Shibpur, the garden sprawls over 109 hectares and nestles more than 12,000 species of plants. The Great Banyan tree is believed to be the largest most spread out Banyan Tree in the world with its canopy covering various localities.

Earlier this garden was known as Royal Botanic Gardens. Now, it is famous for a Banyan Tree which is more than 250 years old. It is about 51 feet tall and covers an area of 257 feet. Rare species of plants are also found here. This garden also consists of artificial lake where the tourists can see different species of fish.
