About Sightseeing at Patan and Modhera

Gujarat offers two cultural centres, a few hours from Ahmedabad : Patan and Modhera. Modhera is famous for its majestic Sun Temple, which has a great history behind it. It was built by the Solanki Dynasty, which established the golden period of Gujarati architecture. Tourists visit the temple to gaze at the beautiful carvings, sculptures and walls of the temple.


The city of Patan is older than Modhera. It was founded even before the Solanki rule. Although it fell to invasion by the Delhi sultanate, some of the monuments survived, one of which is the famous Rani ni Vav. This underground structure attracts tourists who visit there to eye the amazing sculptures of various gods and goddesses. You can also visit the weaving center to have a look at the beautiful patola weave.
