RKCS Art Gallery is among those few notable places in Imphal, where you get to witness different facets of the state of Manipur through beautiful paintings. Founded in 1990 by the legendary artist Rajkumar Chandrajitsana Singh (RKCS), it has been operating as a full-fledged gallery since 2003.
Born on October 13, 1924 at Keishamthong Longjam Leirak in Imphal, Shri Rajkumar Chandrajitsana singh - a popularly known as RKCS-is a household name in the domain of Fine arts in Manipur.
Son of Shri Rajkumar Yumjaosana Singh (1870-1954), one of the pioneer artists in Manipur, RKCS started his career as an apprentice to his talented father during the period of 2nd World war. During the span of sixty-five years, he has executed more than ten thousand number of works on mythological, historical and cultural subjects with vigour and vivacity, and distinguished himself as a portrait painter.
The gallery is actually the hub of Manipuri art and culture collections. It has collection of handicrafts, handloom items, paintings on dried leaves, wooden toys, carved stone statue, weapons, jewelries, utensils etc. All this items depicts the lifestyle of the local community and their old traditional culture.
