Powayan

Powayan is a town and a subdivisional base camp in Shahjahanpur district in the Indian province of Uttar Pradesh, 27 km from Shahjahanpur. It is situated in the fruitful farming belt of Northern India and is 300 km from Delhi and 200 km from Lucknow. At some point after 1250 AD, one part of Gaur Rajputs built up kingdoms at Chandra, Maholi and Katesar in Sitapur in present Uttar Pradesh. A girl of Chandra House of Gaurs was hitched to Rao Gopal Singh, the Katehria chieftain of Nahil. Rao Gopal Singh was executed in a fight by Rohilla Pathans and his dowager looked for the guide of her Gaur family for benefit her two newborn children.

Immediately Bhupat Singh and Himmat Singh of Chandra drove a power into the locale to restore the Katehrias at Nahil. Rehashed assaults and question with the pathans constrained Bhupat Singh to send his child, Raja Udai Singh to Nahil's guide. Raja Udai Singh crushed the pathans at Deokali and built up his home at Pawayan. He set up a Fortress at Pawayan around 1705 AD and there after his relatives built up Pawayan as the biggest Rajput Estate in Rohilkhand region. Legend goes that Pawayan was built up initially from east of Nahil or framed the Poorvaiyan chowk. Poorvaiyan over entry of time got contorted to Pawayan or Puwayan. With time the domain of Nahil lost gloss and Puwayan prospered under the Gaur rulers.
