The Jal Mandir, meaning Water Temple is a famous religious spot in Pawapuri. This temple is highly revered and dedicated to Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara who was the founder of Jain religion. This spot marks his cremation. He is known to have attained Nirvana in this place.
The temple is within a tank filled with red coloured lotus flowers, built by the Kind Nandivardhan, the elder brother of Mahavir. One of the five main temples of Pawapuri, it has the foot impression of Mahavir.
