Hirakud Dam

Hirakud Dam is one of the longest man made dams in the world and is constructed across the Mahanadi river in Orissa. It was built in 1956, in this favorable location. It has an atmosphere ideal for wildlife to flourish. Situated in the close vicinity of the Dam is the Hirakud reservoir which captures the interest of many tourists and also a large number of birds. 

Migratory birds like Common Pochard,  Red crested Pochard and Great Crested Grebe can be spotted here during the winter season. Bird watchers and wildlife lovers must visit the place. The nature lovers will enjoy the quaint atmosphere and the abundant greenary of the Dam. Besides the beauty of the reservoir and Dam, there is a hill nearby called Budharaja hill which has a temple on its peak. One can visit the temple to continue with the religious tourism. The Dam must be visited for a tranquil getaway in the lap of nature.
