Hirakud Dam is one of the longest man made dams in the world and is constructed across the Mahanadi river in Orissa. It was built in 1956, in this favorable location. It has an atmosphere ideal for wildlife to flourish. Situated in the close vicinity of the Dam is the Hirakud reservoir which captures the interest of many tourists and also a large number of birds.
