This is a town and a gram panchayat in Goghat II CD Block in Arambag subdivision of Hooghly district in the area of West Bengal, India. The remnants of a stronghold at Gar Mandaran gave the setting to Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's novel Durgeshnandini. Durgeshnandini is a wistful novel, develop fairly as for history and generally on clamor. The story rotates around the strike and control of Gar Mandaran stronghold of Raja Birendra Singh, associated with the Bishnupur Raj, by the Pathans who were then settled in Odisha. The Mughal general Man Singh's kid, Jagat Singh, was despatched to monitor the Pathans. Jagat Singh turned out to be pitifully fascinated with Tilottama, the beautiful young lady of Raja Birendra Singh.
