Bagnath Temple is an old place of worship devoted to Lord Shiva, arranged in the Bageshwar city at the intersection of Sarayu and Gomati streams. The Bagnath Temple amidst the town of Bageshwar gets its name from the occurrence of the praised sage Markandeya being gone by Lord Shiva as a tiger. Bagnath, truly means The Tiger Lord, produced using joining the hindi words, 'bagh' which means tiger, and 'nath', the hindi word for a higher divine being. The sanctuary was developed in 1450, by the then leader of Kumaon, Laxmi Chand, and stands at the stunning point where the stream Gomati and Sarayu join.
