About Castletown & Castle Rushen

Castletown, for a long time the capital of the island, is the place you'll discover Castle Rushen. This previous regal home was based on the site of a prior thirteenth century Viking fortification. Furthermore, in spite of its age, the Castle is greatly all around protected and remains in a conspicuous area at the focal point of town. Features incorporate the check in the south pinnacle introduced by Elizabeth I in 1597, a remarkable sundial with 13 dials, and one of the island's most prominent fortunes: a Celtic cross brought from the little seaward islet, the Calf of Man.

The manor today fills in as an exhibition hall displaying the lives of the island's previous rulers. Aides in period outfits include a quality of credibility. Likewise of note in Castletown is the Old Grammar School, set up in St Mary's Chapel in 1702 and now a gallery archiving instruction in the Victorian time frame, alongside the Nautical Museum with its interesting accumulation of memorable model boats.
