About Wittmund
Wittmund is a town and capital of the district of Wittmund, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Wittmund is a town of 21,000 occupants situated in Germany's noteworthy beach front district of East Frisia, between the towns of Aurich and Jever. The town's ward covers a territory of 52,000 sections of land which make it one of the biggest precincts in Lower Saxony. While the town of Wittmund is around 14 km from the North Sea coast, its precinct incorporates the little port of Harlesiel which is the beginning stage for ships to the island of Wangerooge. Harlesiel is named after the Harle, a little waterway that begins and completes inside Wittmund district.
The town of Wittmund, on the edge of the geest, and its surroundings are an antiquated zone of settlement. It was connected to inland East Frisia's system of streets right off the bat and industrially arranged to the adjacent coast. Around 1200, Wittmund was the center point of the provincial ward Landgemeinde of Wangerland and was called Wiedemund or Wiedemundheim around then. The regional units of the provincial areas depended generally on old Frisian districts. Esens was the managerial focal point of the Harlingerland. Wittmund was given town rights as ahead of schedule as 1567 by Agnes, Countess of Rietberg. In the 17th century these rights were repealed and were not conceded again until 1929.
