About Saint-Medard Church

Saint-Medard Church is a Catholic church located in Thouars, France. Some information can locate its creation in the 12th century. From this foremost church of l. A. First half of the twelfth century only survives some lower events of the facade and side walls: the two portals north and west and a large part of the south wall. It was a church with three naves kind of hall: a central nave and two lateral vaults, of the same height.

The northern portal is decorated with a polylobed arch of Mozarabic architecture. The church will gradually evolve in the late Middle Ages and will be largely reworked in the 15th and 16th centuries. The 19th century is a period of renewal for this church. A vast program of restoration of the main portal is launched and lasts until 1870, works directed by the architect Daviaud. Since 2005, the south wall has been decorated with contemporary stained glass windows in Limoges stained glass window.
