About Dauphinois Museum

The Museum Dauphinois historical center is an area gallery, situated in Grenoble France. The exhibition hall was established in 1906 by the ethnographer Hipollyte Muller. Until 1968, it was introduced in the religious community of Sainte-Marie-den-Bas in the road Tres-Cloitres. It is an ethnographic, archeological and authentic historical center, covering the domain of the previous territory of Dauphine. This religiou’s community of the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary was first established with regards to the Counter-Reformation in the seventeenth century.

The gathering, just for ladies, was made in 1610 by holy person Francis de Sales and holy person Jane Frances de Chantal who settled their fourth house in Grenoble and named it the cloister of Sainte-Marie-den-Haut. The building was raised somewhere in the range of 1619 and 1621 on the correct bank of the Isère stream, over the city, at the base of the Bastille slope's slants, long of Chalemont inclining street. Around then, Chalemont Street, a previous Roman street, was not any more the chronicled section of the city because of another street, delved in the stones along the stream. This new street was included another entryway in 1620, known as Porte de France's Gate because of the duke of Lesdiguieres.

This cloister respected a few sorts of occupiers. Amid the French Revolution, it turned into a national having a place and was changed into a correctional facility for hostile to progressive individuals, for example, nearby vital men like Cherubin Beyle, father of the essayist Stendhal, the cabinetmaker Jean-Francois Hache, chartreux Fathers and non-juring clerics. In 1804, nuns of the Order of the Holy Heart driven by Philippine Duchesne settled in the religious community and gave their opportunity to instructing young ladies. At that point, the Ursulines settled there from 1851 to April 1905, when they were ousted and their furniture was set available to be purchased.
