Ganden Monastery

Ganden Monastery or Ganden Namgyeling is one of the "considerable three" Gelug college cloisters of Tibet, China. It is in Dagzê County, Lhasa.

The other two are Sera Monastery and Drepung Monastery.Ganden Monastery is situated on Wangbur Mountain, on the southern bank of Lhasa River in Tagtse County, 47 kilometers 29 miles from Lhasa City.

It remains at an elevation of 3,800 meters 12,467 feet above ocean level! It is one of the most punctual and biggest Buddhist religious communities in Tibet, and stands on of the six well known sanctuaries of Gelugpa - a branch of Tibetan Buddhism.

Its hugeness as a religious, imaginative, political and social relic prompted it being saved by the National Key Cultural Relic Preservation conspire in 1961, and is presently known as being one of the 'Three Great Temples', together with the Sera Monastery and the Drepung Monastery .

Consistently, one of the most terrific of Buddhist exercises - Buddha Painting Unfolding Festival - is directed here, drawing in a great many guests and followers.
