About Murici Ecological Station

Murcia Ecological Station, is an ecological station in Alago State of Brazil. It preserves the rugged area of Atlantic Forest which is important as a house for many species of rare or endangered birds. In order to provide buffer zones for ESEC, on March 14, 1997, the Mercie Environmental Protection Area was created by State law 5,907. Mercy Ecological Station was created on 28 May 2001 by the federal decree.
The consultation council was created on November 21, 2002. Categorized as IUCN protected area range Ia strict nature reserve. The objective is to preserve nature and do scientific research. The area is considered as a priority for the protection of birds. ESEC is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation ICMBO. Until 2006 the ownership of the land was not regularized yet.
Since some undivided land is outside the ESEC, and some land was troubled within the ESEC, the adjustment of the boundaries could be warrants. The unit suffers from game hunting by local residents and people from other places. The species with the highest prevalence is Puka, Aguori and Armandilo. The predators have made wooden skins in the trees during ESEC. Holding birds for pets is also a constant problem.
