About Whatcom Museum
The Whatcom Museum housed in the Old City Hall, Lightcatcher building and Syre Education Center was initially worked in 1892 as the city corridor for the previous town of New Whatcom, before it was joined with encompassing towns to shape Bellingham, Washington. The building was composed in a Late Victorian style by Alfred Lee, a neighborhood planner, who utilized red block and Chuckanut Sandstone for its construction. The outline itself was a relatively correct copy of the second Saginaw County Courthouse in Saginaw, Michigan, Designed by Fred W. Hollister.
At the season of development, the building was arranged on a feign above Bellingham Bay. In any case, finished the years, noteworthy measures of the waterfront were filled in to make more land. As of now, the building sits above Maritime Heritage Park. The building filled in as city corridor until 1936, and turned out to be a piece of the historical center in 1941. In 1962, the fire harmed the building, yet endeavors from the network fund-raised to reestablish the building. In 2009, The Whatcom Museum opened an area in the recently planned Lightcatcher building. The Lightcatcher, planned via Seattle-based Olson Kundig Architects, is named for its 37 feet high and 180 feet long translucent divider, which encourages ious vitality sparing systems.
