In twenty-five sections of land of Colorado, more gold has been mined than in all of Alaska and California joined. The Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine was at the core of Colorado's gold mining industry, and this visit brings guests into mine poles and passages that have been worked since 1889. A lift ships guests 1,000 feet underneath the earth, and it isn't for the claustrophobic.
Once inside the mine, previous excavators and relatives of mineworkers give phenomenal guided visits enduring roughly 45 minutes, showing guests about gold mine conditions, demonstrating to them a century of mining hardware, and showing a vein of gold metal as yet going through the passages. Over the ground there is a blessing shop and an occasional coffee shop.
