Chateau-sur-Mer

The magnificent mansion Chateau-sur-Mer was the most luxurious residence in Newport when it was worked in 1852. House sur-Mer was initially worked in an Italianate style for china broker William Shepard Wetmore.

Loaded with luxurious Victorian furniture, high quality backdrops, old fashioned earthenware production, and masterful stenciling, Chateau-sur-Mer was renowned for vital gatherings, for example, the "Fete Champetre," a cookout held in 1857 for in excess of two thousand visitors and the 1889 debutante ball for Miss Edith Wetmore.

The house was redesigned and refurbished in 1870 in the Second Empire French style, and accordingly, it shows numerous real outline patterns of the nineteenth century. The house now has a place with the Preservation Society and is available to the general population.
