The displays in the fresher building present Scottish history in a basically sequential plan, starting at the most reduced level with ancient times to the early medieval period, with later periods on the more elevated amounts. The Victorian working, as revived in 2011, contains four zones each with ious displays, covering normal history, world societies counting exhibitions on the South Pacific, East Asia, and Ancient Egypt, European craftsmanship and plan, and science and innovation. The Grand Gallery contains an assortment of extensive items from the accumulations, with a show called the "Window on the World" ascending through four stories, or around 20 meters, containing more than 800 articles mirroring the expansiveness of the accumulations. Past the Grand Gallery at ground level is the "Disclosures" exhibition, with objects associated with "noteworthy Scots ... in the fields of creation, investigation and enterprise".
