About suleymaniye Mosque

Seated high above the Sultanahmet area, the Süleymaniye Mosque stands out among Istanbul's tourist sights.

It was built for Süleyman the Magnificent by the well-known Ottoman engineer Sinan between 1549 and 75.

The interior, framed by a 53-meter-high vault is a remarkable feat of architecture.

Outside, in the peaceful garden, is an Ottoman cemetery that is the final home to the türbes tombs of Sultan Süleyman and his empress Haseki Hürrem Sultan, known in the west as Roxelana.
