About Almanzora

The Almanzora River is a waterway in the territory of Almería in Andalusia, Spain. It goes close to the town of Huercal Overa, through the town of Cuevas del Almanzora before exhausting into the Mediterranean Sea in Punta del Rio, amongst Palomares and Villaricos, after an excursion of 90 kilometers 56 mi. In some cases it ends up swollen as in September 2012. A past surge happened in October 1973. The Almanzora bowl is limited toward the south by the Sierra de los Filabres, which ascends to 2,168 meters 7,113 ft. Different features are the Tetica Bacares at 2,080 meters 6,820 ft and Dos Picos at 2,086 meters 6,844 ft.

Toward the west and north, it is limited by the Sierra de las Estancias, which incorporates the Sierra de Lucar at 1,722 meters 5,650 ft, the Sierra del Madronal at 1,350 meters 4,430 ft, the Sierra de Oria at 1,500 meters 4,900 ft and the Sierra del Saliente at 1,450 meters 4,760 ft. Toward the west, connecting watersheds is that of the Guadalquivir through the Rio de Baza and rio Guardal joining the Guadalquivir stream Guadiana Menor by means of rio.
