About The Waimea Inlet
The Waimea Inlet is the biggest encased estuary in the South Island.
It is 3,455 ha in an area, with an interior coastline of 65 km. Scenes of substantial sedimentation happened in the 70s influencing a portion of the more encased parts of the estuary.
Around 170 hectares of intertidal living space has been lost to recovery, the greater part of which happened before 1980.
Amid times of high precipitation, lifted levels of malady causing living beings can be flushed into the estuary.
The memorable impact of poisons from different enterprises and landfills is confined.
